NewsSeason finale at Portimão: Mees Houben ready for the final round
From 16 to 18 October, Mees Houben will contest the final two races of his debut season in the GT4 European Series. The finale takes place at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão, and it carries extra meaning: it is the home ground of his Portuguese team, Speedy Motorsport. Mees looks back on a strong first year at international GT level. He finished on the podium on his debut at Paul Ricard, took third place at Misano and finished second in front of his home crowd at Zandvoort. Together with Lachlan Evennett in the Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, he aims to end the season in Portugal with a strong result. Portimão is new ground for the GT4 European Series, as the current series races there for the first time. The 4.6 km circuit is known for its elevation changes, blind corners and fast sections, and has hosted MotoGP and two Formula 1 Grands Prix. Mees already knows the track: earlier this year he made a guest appearance here with Speedy Motorsport. One more weekend, two more races. NewsHome podium for Mees Houben at Zandvoort
Mees Houben took his third GT4 podium of the season at Circuit Zandvoort. Together with Lachlan Evennett, he finished second in Saturday's race, both overall and in the Silver category. Mees laid the foundation in qualifying, where he set the fifth-fastest time. In his opening stint he first passed Benjamin Lariche (Speedcar Audi) and then pole-sitter Grégory Guilvert. That put the Toyota in third place when the pit stops began. Evennett took over and kept the car on course for the podium. The fight for the win was decided by a penalty. Henry Joslyn and Yani Stevenheydens took the chequered flag first in their Elite Motorsport McLaren, but received ten seconds for speeding in the pit lane. As a result, Charlie Hart and McKenzy Cresswell (Elite Motorsport McLaren) took the victory. Houben and Evennett moved up to second, 5.1 seconds behind the winners. In Sunday's race the pair finished fifth, again also fifth in the Silver category. With that, Mees completed a strong home weekend. The season finale follows in October at Portimão.

NewsFrom 14th on the grid to the podium: Mees Houben third at Misano
Mees Houben took his second GT4 podium of the season at Misano. Together with Lachlan Evennett, he drove the Speedy Motorsport Toyota GR Supra from 14th on the grid to third place. In the Italian heat, the race was full of incidents, and several front-runners retired. Mees drove the opening stint and kept the Toyota out of trouble, which put the team in a good position. After the driver change, Evennett joined a close fight for the last podium places. He passed an Aston Martin and a McLaren to move up to fourth. When Michiel Haverans stopped his Mustang with a suspension problem, third place was theirs. The win went to Charlie Hart and McKenzy Cresswell (Elite Motorsport McLaren). After second place at Paul Ricard, Mees has now been on the podium twice in his debut season.

NewsPodium on GT4 debut for Mees Houben
Mees Houben has started his first GT4 European Series season with second place. Together with team-mate Lachlan Evennett, he took the Speedy Motorsport Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 to the podium at Paul Ricard, in a field of 40 cars. The pair set the eighth-fastest time in both qualifying sessions. In race 1, Mees took the start. After his half-hour stint he handed the car to Evennett, who gained places in the closing stages and brought the Toyota home in second. The win went to Cedric Fuchs and Enrico Förderer in the SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm Mercedes-AMG. A year earlier, Mees also finished on the podium in his very first MX-5 race. Once again, he did it on his debut in a new championship. In race 2 the roles were reversed. Evennett started and handed the Toyota to Mees in tenth place. In the final part of the race Mees moved forward and crossed the line sixth. After the race, the team received a ten-second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane, which dropped the pair to sixteenth (twelfth in the Silver category). A podium on debut and clear race pace in both races: a better start to the season was hardly possible.

After a strong first year in car racing, Mees Houben is taking the next step. The 16-year-old driver from Heerlen moves from the Mazda MX-5 Cup to the GT4 European Series, one of the most competitive GT4 championships in Europe. In 2025, Mees raced his first season in cars with MV Motorsport. He finished on the podium in his very first race, won three races (Zolder, Zandvoort and Assen) and fought for the title until the final lap. He ended the season second in the championship, as the youngest driver on the grid. In 2026, Mees will race for the Portuguese team Speedy Motorsport in a Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2. He shares the car with Australian Lachlan Evennett and competes in the Silver category. It is his first step onto the international GT stage. The season opener takes place on 11 and 12 April at Circuit Paul Ricard in France, with 38 entries. There, Mees will meet a familiar face: Leon van Verseveld, his rival in the MX-5 Cup, who is also moving up to GT4.

Mees Houben opened his race weekend at Circuit Zolder in perfect style. In a close qualifying session, the young driver from Limburg put his MV Motorsport Mazda MX-5 on pole position, the first of his car racing career. It was a strong result against a competitive field. Maxim van den Doel (JW Raceservice) set the second-fastest time and Wouter Janssen was third. Jordy van der Eijk had been quickest in free practice but could only manage fifth in qualifying. Championship leader Marcel Dekker chose to save his tyres and will start the race from ninth. With pole secured, Mees starts the race from the best possible position.
